International Silver Company
The Sinicrope – Sarrazin clan had undeniably strong roots in the International Silver Company.
All four sons of Nicholas and Filomena Sinicrope (Mike, Jimmy, Tony and Albert) and the son and daughter of Herman and Jennie Sarrazin (Dorothy and Herman) worked for at least some period of time for International Silver Company. Bob Sinicrope, Michael and Dorothy’s son worked there as a computer operator for two summers. Both fathers Nicholas Sinicrope and Herman Sarrazin worked there for decades until their retirement as did Mike and Tony Sinicrope and Herman Sarrazin’s son Herman. Husband and wife, Mike Sinicrope and Dorothy Sarrazin met while working at International Silver Company. As a young girl, of 12 or 13, Filomena Scali’s father instructed her to approach his boss at the International Silver company and give him a fruit basket for Christmas. Filomena’s father also instructed her to pretend to be sad. Upon receiving the fruit basket, the boss asked the young girl why she was sad. As coached by her father, Filomena explained that she was engaged to be married to Nicholas Sinicrope but he lived in Stamford Connecticut far away from Meriden. Nicholas would not be able to move to Meriden and marry her until he had a job. The boss told her he would give Nicholas a job and that he should move to Meriden. Nicholas moved to Meriden and became a painter for International Silver Company until he retired. Nicholas and Filomena were married when Filomena was 13 years old. She used to hide her candy wrappers and toys under the bed so that her 18 year old husband wouldn’t find them. She had her first child Mike when she was 16 years old and by the age of 22 she had given birth to five boys one of whom Frankie died at the age of two. |
